Fountain!
We did it! I got hot-glued to it in places, but it works!

This was a great project to do with my Dad! |
Now, I've got a layer of activated charcoal in it for hygiene reasons, and even after thoroughly rinsing the stuff (it sings when you do this, it's weird and awesome), there were still small particles in the water and... it stuffed up the motor. So, I wrenched the thing from the position it was glued in, managed to loosen and knock out or blow out the majority of the blockage and got it working again. In order to prevent such teensy tiny particles from getting through the intake again, instead of employing a mesh filter around the pump (which wouldn't have worked, the particulates are way too fine) I sacrificed a teabag for my plants. I superglued the teabag (minus the tea) to the intake area, ensuring that no more fine particles of charcoal, stone, cat hair, or soil will get in and clog the motor of my water pump.

MacGyvering a solution once again... |
Unfortunately, the motor is a fair bit noisier than before, due to residual bits of gumpf in the workings, but I'm ok with that, means I won't leave it on by accident and burn the thing out. There's no switch for it unfortunately, it's a case of plugging it into the USB port and unplugging when you're done.
